BABIES PHOTOGRAPHY:
Pose for the babies photography, start with a naked baby in a blanket in your arms. Once you are sleepy, rest it gently on your back and remove the blanket. Cross your feet and bend your knees as you see in the photo below and just hold them there with your hand for a few minutes. If you relax in that position, you can slowly withdraw your hand and your legs will remain crossed.
It is useful if you have something in which you can gently wrap the baby to keep the legs crossed. The white fabric above is only one length of cheesecloth. You can also make or buy (see Etsy) a nice crochet "bowl" or "peapod" that will help keep the baby's legs stretched and crossed.
For this type of pose, I usually move the cushions of my sofa out of the way and place the baby on the floor. Then I stand in a chair near him and photograph him directly from above (see the first photo below). But if the baby really wants to turn his head to one side, it's worth jumping out of the chair and lying down next to her to get some photos that better show her face (second picture below).
Swaddled:
Making diapers for a baby is the easiest way to pose for newborn photos at home. Simple wrap it well and lay it on a nice blanket or piece of cloth. I usually keep the wrapped photos for the end of the photo shoot, when the baby has woken up. Newborns love to be wrapped around them and will usually stay fairly calm if they are tight enough.
If the baby is still asleep, you will not have to wrap it so tight to keep it calm. Use a favorite blanket (like this, which my great friend Heidi made for me) to wrap the baby and put her in a nice basket or bowl.
If your basket is deep, first you have to fill it with blankets and then place the baby on top so it does not sink into the bottom of the basket.
Do not forget to take more detailed pictures when the baby is wrapped. You can pull the blanket down on the bottom to discover the small toes for the excellent photo shoot of newborns.
